How do I read the tracker?
The Biomass Tracker is a Sankey diagram, using data visualisation that shows how woody biomass moves through each stage of the supply chain. The preselected quarterly time period shown at the top of the chart refers to when the biomass was either used at Drax Power Station or sold to third party buyers. The earlier stages in the supply chain (such as fibre sourcing, pelletising and transportation) may have taken place prior to this period.
Supply chain stages
Fibre origin
Areas where we source fibre for the sustainable biomass we produce.
Transportation
Movement of biomass between various stages of the Drax supply chain by truck, train or barge.
Sea freight
Movement of biomass by ship.
Pelletising
Processing of raw fibre into the biomass pellets we produce and buy from 3rd party suppliers
Port loading and discharge
Facilities where pellets are loaded for shipment or unloaded at their destination.
Storage
Temporary holding of pellets at Drax or third party facilities before use.
Use
Facilities that combust biomass to generate renewable electricity (Drax Power Station units) or third party customers of the biomass.
